Maxi Acton Vale

Construction Longer was commissioned to build a new 34,000 ft² grocery store in Acton Vale within 27 weeks. The grocery store features a large display area, a small warehouse at the rear, and a mezzanine for offices and a mechanical room. The building envelope is constructed from insulated metal panels, allowing the building to be quickly enclosed during construction. This is the first Maxi in Quebec to feature this type of envelope.

Challenge #1

This was the project team’s first grocery store: a first time for everything! Although they had between 11 and 40 years’ experience in the construction industry at the start of the project, they had never touched a grocery store before. Knowledge was shared between the more experienced teams and the project team to ensure that the project was a success. Whether it was draining the refrigerators a few days before pouring the first slab on the ground, or at any other time, the teams worked together: no one was left to their own devices on this project.

Challenge #2

All Construction Longer workers have received health and safety training from ASP Construction. However, some external workers had not received this training. To ensure everyone’s safety, we had to demarcate the worksite to separate trained and untrained workers, and implement specific measures.
