Darche interchange
Project summary
As part of a public tender, Construction Longer was given the mandate to build a new bridge over Highway 410. This project also required the construction of a 190-foot temporary modular bridge to keep traffic moving during the construction work. The Darche interchange was at the end of its useful lifespan and needed to be completely rebuilt.
The new bridge, a curved bridge ± 30 m wide, required around 2,400 m³ of concrete. This civil engineering project required rigorous planning to minimise the impact on traffic on this key artery in Sherbrooke.

Challenge #1
A major challenge was to maintain traffic flow throughout the mandate, in order to minimise disruption to the community and nearby businesses. To achieve this, the steel structure, made up of 34 beams, was installed over a weekend, and the deck slab, requiring ± 460 m³ of concrete, was poured in a single night. Thanks to this approach, our teams were able to reduce the impact on the circulation while avoiding construction joints on the deck, which improved the quality of the structure.
Challenge #2
The limited space of the site was a challenge in itself. The project required teamwork involving a large number of workers and contractors, as well as a tight schedule. This meant that several members had to work simultaneously. Thanks to rigorous management and coordination, the project was successfully completed.
