Bromont Bridge
Project summary
The old bridge over the Yamaska River had reached the end of its useful life and was in need of replacement. In a public call for tenders issued by the Ministry of Transportation of Quebec, Construction Longer was the lowest bidder and was awarded the contract to rebuild bridge P-19552 on Route 241 in Bromont.
With a width of 22m, the new bridge is twice as wide as the existing one, making it possible to add a sidewalk and bicycle path. This reconstruction was one of the first steps in the redevelopment of the intersection of Route 241 and Bromont Boulevard, which will also improve traffic flow. The new bridge deck over the Yamaska River has a span of 29 m and consists of a concrete slab resting on 7 prestressed concrete beams. An imposing 48m-long retaining wall was also built to widen Route 241. In all, nearly 1,600 m3 of concrete were placed by our teams on this project!

Challenge #1
As the City of Bromont’s sewer and water mains cross the new retaining wall, all these lines had to be rerouted for several weeks in order to carry out the work.
Challenge #2
Traffic management was a major issue for this project, located in a very busy touristic area. Temporary retaining structures had to be put in place to allow the work to be carried out while maintaining traffic flow.
