À La Claire Fontaine Pool
Project summary
The À La Claire Fontaine Pool in Victoria Park was originally built in the early 1960s. The service building and in-ground concrete pool had reached the end of their useful life, and the City of Sherbrooke wanted to rebuild them to rejuvenate the facility.
Following a public invitation to tender, Construction Longer was given the contract to deconstruct the existing facilities and rebuild a service building, a new swimming pool and a water play area. The project began in autumn 2023 and was completed in summer 2024, requiring the contribution of over thirty specialized contractors.

Challenge #1
Space was relatively limited, which meant that the work on the pool and building had to be carried out in parallel to meet the project schedule. Rigorous planning, organization and close collaboration with our subcontractors were essential to the achievement of this project.
Challenge #2
Some changes in the mandate led Construction Longer to review the project planning, which necessitated concreting in winter conditions. Careful planning to take account of weather conditions and the judicious choice of admixtures recommended by our concrete supplier were essential to the project’s success. In addition, optimum management of curing temperatures using insulating blankets and heating systems ensured a high-quality, compliant structure.
