A sincere collaboration for over 40 years
The story of Construction Longer is one of teamwork. It’s been at the heart of everything we do since day one. We are efficient in the short term while thinking about the long term. Simply put, everything here is designed to last.
1 January 1979 - 1979
1 January 1979Mr. Jean-Paul Longchamps starts working for Gérard Allard inc. as a foreman. Construction Gérard Allard is officially created. This makes us the oldest member of the ACQ Estrie still active as a general contractor.
1 January 1981 - 1981
1 January 1981A major institutional project is completed in 1981: the St-Elie d’Orford town hall and community center.
The desire to diversify the services offered by the company has been present from the very beginning. Today, Construction Longer offers expertise in both public and private construction.

1 February 1981Mr. Jean-Paul Longchamps becomes a majority shareholder of Construction Gérard Allard and joins forces with Mr. Jean-Guy Auger

1 January 1983The company is carrying out its first major multi-unit project: a 126-unit building on D’Youville Street in Sherbrooke.

1 February 1983The company is rebranded as Construction Longer. This name is chosen by the two partners Mr. Jean-Paul Longchamps and Mr. Jean-Guy Auger. Mr. Luc Auclair joins the team as a surveyor. Did you know that Mr. Luc Auclair designed our logo? It represents a corner of a building. Its black foundation reflects the authority of Mr. Longchamps and Mr. Auger, while the red reflects Mr. Auclair’s more daring side.

1 January 1984This year, Construction Longer built its first office building for DULAMO.
1 January 1986 - 1986
1 January 1986In 1986, Construction Longer completed its first major commercial project, Andrew Paton Square, where Datoni’s restaurant had been for several years.
1 January 1987 - 1987
1 January 19871987 is a very important year: the team completes its first major grocery store project, a Provigo. This project makes Construction Longer the oldest construction partner of Loblaws in Canada. We had the chance to build the first prototypes of the chain’s new concepts in 2011 when we built the first Provigo Le Marché in Quebec, in Sherbrooke.

1 January 1992A major period of economic recession sets in. This is when the management team at Construction Longer wants to invest in its own strengths. Working through our own strengths is an indisputable advantage that we can offer our team and our partners.

1 January 1994At the time, the company was located in the basement of a bungalow, but it was expanding and had to move. The team moved to 175 Léger Street in Sherbrooke. Since its move, 3 major renovations have been done: one in 2001, one in 2015 and a more recent one in 2022.

1 January 2000Mr. Longchamps retires and hands over the presidency to Mr. Luc Auclair.

1 January 2001As the company grew and its team expanded, the first expansion project was launched.
Did you know that our offices at 175 Léger Street have undergone 3 major expansions? The first in 2001, the second in 2015 and the most recent in 2022.

1 January 2005In 2005, Construction Longer opened a branch in Brossard to better meet the needs of its customers on Montreal’s South Shore. This branch operated from 2005 to 2012. Its objective was to serve the food market sector on Montreal’s South Shore.

1 January 2007At Construction Longer, we like to get involved with youth. We believe that everyone should have access to a quality education. Starting in 2007, the company decided to do more by offering more internships. Since then, the number of interns has steadily increased.

1 January 2010Construction Longer undertakes its first civil engineering project as a subcontractor. From 2010 onwards, our team develops its expertise in this sector.

1 January 2011We had the chance to build the first prototypes of new concepts for the Provigo chain. In 2011, we built the first Provigo Le Marché in Quebec, in Sherbrooke. Our relationship with the chain has been going on for several years.

1 January 2012A significant moment: Construction Longer builds its first bridge as a general contractor.

1 January 2014Construction Longer obtains its certification for the construction of complex structures. This certification allows it to bid on the construction of bridges considered complex (e.g., overpasses, multi-span bridges, etc.)

1 January 2019The company celebrates its 40th anniversary! On this occasion, Mr. Luc Auclair transfers the presidency to his son, Mr. Pierre-Luc Auclair. Pierre-Luc is accompanied by a management committee composed of:

1 January 2020The Worksite Advisory Committee is created. This committee represents the site expertise of the company’s various sectors of activity and assists the company’s management with a field point of view.
Working to our own strengths has been part of Construction Longer’s DNA since the very beginning.
1 January 2022 - 2022
1 January 2022Construction Longer wins its largest public tender ever, for the Pavillon de santé de précision et de recherche translationnelle, with the Sherbrooke University. The contract for Pavillon Z10 is signed for $52,584,000.
1 January 2023 - 2023
1 January 2023Construction Longer becomes the first general contractor in Quebec to be B Corp certified.
